Common questions

Our trips and courses are designed for various skill levels. Whether you’re new to backcountry skiing or an experienced rider looking to refine your skills, we have options for you. We will adapt the ski trip to your level or suggest your the best class for your level. What we require from you for a day ski trip is to be efficient with your rescue equipments:

Avalanche Safety Equipment:

  • Avalanche Transceiver (Beacon): A device for locating buried avalanche victims. Ensure it has fresh batteries.
  • Avalanche Probe: Used to pinpoint the location of a buried person after a beacon search.
  • Avalanche Shovel: A lightweight, durable shovel for digging in snow. You will be tested or we will offer your a refresher and teach you prior a trip. We will then pick a area according to your level.

All participants must have their own or rented ski touring/split-board equipment and avalanche safety gear. Please review the list according to your trip. Check our Equipment Lists for full details. For rentals Shame mountain Co-op  could be a solution for you.

Backcountry skiing and avalanche courses involve physical activity in winter conditions. Participants should be comfortable skiing or snowboarding in variable terrain and capable of hiking uphill with skins. A moderate-to-high level of fitness is recommended.

Safety is our top priority. If we determine that conditions are unsafe, we will either reschedule or provide a full refund

We will refund 100 % if we judge that the weather or avalanche hazard are not conducive to an enjoyable and or safe adventure together.

However, clients should be prepared for varying weather conditions.

Shames Mountain Co-Op is a good option for gear rental

Expect an early start! We typically meet at a designated location, review the plan, do a safety briefing, and check all gear before heading out. For courses, expect a mix of classroom-style learning and field exercises. Ski tours include terrain assessment, uphill travel, and epic descents!
